The Tamiya 1/350 Japanese Heavy Cruiser Chikuma (78027) reproduces one of the two Tone-class heavy cruisers that formed Japan's most distinctive cruiser design — with all four main gun turrets concentrated forward and the entire rear deck devoted to a massive seaplane facility. Chikuma participated in virtually every major Japanese naval operation of the Pacific War, from Pearl Harbor to the Battle of Leyte Gulf where she was sunk by US carrier aircraft in October 1944. Her seaplanes provided the vital reconnaissance that found the American carrier fleet at Pearl Harbor.
