The Tamiya 1/350 Japanese Navy Submarine I-400 (78019) reproduces the largest submarine of the Second World War — a vessel so extraordinary that nothing comparable was built until nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines decades later. The I-400 class were submersible aircraft carriers capable of carrying three Aichi M6A Seiran floatplanes in a watertight hangar forward of the conning tower, designed to attack the Panama Canal and the US mainland. At 122 metres long with a range of 37,500 nautical miles, they could circumnavigate the globe one and a half times without refuelling.
Kit highlights:
- Accurate IJN I-400 submarine with floatplane hangar
- Watertight aircraft hangar and catapult reproduced
- Three Aichi M6A Seiran aircraft included
- The largest submarine of WWII — a unique subject
- A landmark Japanese naval engineering subject in 1/350 scale
