The Tamiya 1/48 Kawasaki Ki-61-Id Hien (61115) reproduces Japan's only liquid-cooled inline-engined fighter of the Second World War. The Hien (Swallow) was a departure from the typical radial-engined Japanese fighter, using a licence-built version of the Daimler-Benz DB 601 engine that gave it a distinctive slim, Western-style fuselage. Allied pilots initially reported it as a Me109 or Macchi, before it was identified as a new type and assigned the reporting name 'Tony'.
Tamiya's 1/48 kit captures the Hien's distinctive inline-engine profile and clean airframe with excellent accuracy, including pilot figure and detailed cockpit.
