The Tamiya 1/48 Vought F4U-1A Corsair (61070) reproduces the improved early Corsair variant that addressed the landing difficulties and pilot visibility issues of the original F4U-1. The 1A introduced a raised cockpit with a slightly modified canopy and other refinements that made it more suitable for carrier operations — though the Corsair still served primarily from land bases with USMC squadrons for much of its early career, earning the nickname 'Whistling Death' from Japanese forces.
