The Tamiya 1/35 Pz.Kpfw. I Ausf.B (35388) reproduces Germany's first production tank — the diminutive two-man Panzer I that formed the backbone of the early Wehrmacht armoured force. The Ausf.B variant introduced a longer hull and more powerful engine compared to the Ausf.A, and these tanks were the combat vehicles on which the future Blitzkrieg commanders learned their trade in Spain and in the opening campaigns of 1939-40.

Armed with only twin machine guns and lightly armoured, the Panzer I was outclassed by almost everything it faced in combat — but its role in training and developing the foundations of German armoured tactics cannot be overstated. An essential and historically significant early-war subject.
