The Tamiya 1/35 Russian IS-2 Model 1944 ChKZ (35289) reproduces the definitive production variant of the IS-2 heavy tank — the 1944 model produced by Chelyabinsk (ChKZ) with the improved straight-nosed front hull that replaced the earlier stepped design. The IS-2 was the Soviet tank killer par excellence: its 122mm D-25T gun could destroy a Panther or Tiger at 1,500 metres and routinely penetrated the King Tiger's side armour. It was specifically assigned to break through heavily fortified positions and destroy enemy armour.
