The Tamiya 1/35 German Schwimmwagen Type 166 (35224) — not to be confused with the later 35393 release — reproduces the amphibious VW-based light car that was one of the most versatile and unusual German vehicles of the Second World War. The Type 166 Schwimmwagen was the most-produced amphibious car in history, with over 14,000 built. It could cross rivers and lakes under its own power using a propeller that folded down from the rear.
This earlier Tamiya kit captures the Schwimmwagen's distinctive rounded hull, folding propeller, and characteristic Volkswagen running gear. An unusual and charming subject for any German WWII vehicle collection.
Kit highlights:
- Accurate Schwimmwagen Type 166 amphibious car in 1/35
- Folding rear propeller and rudder reproduced
- Buoyant hull and water-line detail
- Suitable for all theatres: Eastern Front, Italy, Northwest Europe
- Classic Tamiya subject — an unusual amphibious German vehicle
