During World War II, the M16 self-propelled gun emerged as a critical anti-aircraft defence system, manufactured between 1942 and 1943. Mounted on an M3 half-track chassis, it featured quad 50-calibre (12.7mm) Browning machine guns with impressive specifications: 893m/s muzzle velocity, 6,767m effective range, and a 450-555 rounds-per-minute rate of fire that earned it the fearsome nickname "the meat chopper." The electrically driven Type M45 gun mount offered 360-degree rotation and -10 to +90 degree elevation, capable of moving 60 degrees per second—making it devastatingly effective against both aircraft and ground targets. Its service extended beyond WWII, seeing action with Japanese Ground Self Defence Forces during the Korean War. This 1976 original release includes detailed crew figures with expressive poses that capture the intensity of incoming fighter attacks.

Tamiya 1/35 military model kits are widely respected for their precise engineering, reliable fit and consistent level of detail. The range covers a broad selection of military vehicles, artillery and support equipment, all reproduced with accurate proportions and crisp surface textures. Hulls, turrets and structural components are cleanly moulded with clearly defined panel lines, tools and fittings that capture the character of the original machines.

These kits are designed with straightforward assembly in mind, using well planned parts breakdown and clear instructions to guide the build. Many releases also include crew figures, stowage items and detailed accessories that enhance the finished model. With high quality decal sheets and thoughtfully engineered components, Tamiya 1/35 military kits provide an enjoyable building experience and a strong foundation for both out of the box builds and advanced detailing work.
