Half-tracks captured US military interest from the 1920s onward, but WWII drove their widespread adoption. The M2 gave way to the M3, M3A1, and ultimately the M3A2, over 40,000 produced during the war. The M3A2 represented the pinnacle of the design, refined through lessons learned from earlier variants. Its reinforced open-top turret, capacity for 12 troops, and 143 hp inline-six engine delivering 72 km/h made it formidable across varied terrain.
Agile suspension and powered front wheels proved ideal for rough ground, establishing the M3A2 as a dependable transport for personnel and supplies. Deployed from late 1943 through war's end across multiple theatres, it also saw service as a personnel carrier and self-propelled gun. Post-war, militaries worldwide, including Japan's Ground Self Defence Forces—operated it well into the 1970s.
Tamiya 1/35 military model kits are widely respected for their precise engineering, reliable fit and consistent level of detail. The range covers a broad selection of military vehicles, artillery and support equipment, all reproduced with accurate proportions and crisp surface textures. Hulls, turrets and structural components are cleanly moulded with clearly defined panel lines, tools and fittings that capture the character of the original machines.
These kits are designed with straightforward assembly in mind, using well planned parts breakdown and clear instructions to guide the build. Many releases also include crew figures, stowage items and detailed accessories that enhance the finished model. With high quality decal sheets and thoughtfully engineered components, Tamiya 1/35 military kits provide an enjoyable building experience and a strong foundation for both out of the box builds and advanced detailing work.
