The Tamiya 1/700 U.S. Navy CA-35 Indianapolis (31804) reproduces the Portland-class heavy cruiser with one of the most dramatic and tragic stories in naval history. USS Indianapolis delivered the atomic bomb components to Tinian Island in July 1945 — the mission that made possible the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. On her return voyage she was struck by two Japanese torpedoes and sank in 12 minutes. Because her mission was secret, her absence was not noticed for four days, during which nearly 600 of her crew of 1,196 died — many from shark attacks — in the worst sea disaster in US Naval history.
Kit highlights:
- Accurate USS Indianapolis CA-35 in 1/700 scale
- Portland-class heavy cruiser hull and armament
- The atomic bomb delivery ship in compact 1/700 scale
- Multiple marking options including final July 1945 configuration
- One of the most historically significant US warships
