The Tamiya 1/700 USS Yorktown CV-5 Aircraft Carrier (31712) reproduces the US Navy carrier whose loss at the Battle of Midway — the decisive turning point of the Pacific War — secured her place in history. Yorktown was hit three times by Japanese bombs on 4 June 1942, repaired and returned to action the same day, then hit by two more torpedoes before finally being abandoned. She refused to sink immediately, surviving further Japanese torpedo attacks, before finally going down on 7 June, two days after the battle — a testament to the damage control and tenacity of her crew.
