The Tamiya 1/700 IJN Destroyer Shimakaze (31460) reproduces the fastest destroyer ever built for the Imperial Japanese Navy — the experimental Shimakaze (Island Wind) that could reach a remarkable 40.9 knots on trials and carried the most powerful torpedo armament ever fitted to a destroyer: fifteen 610mm Long Lance torpedo tubes in three quintuple mounts. She was never repeated due to her enormous machinery requirements, but she represented the absolute pinnacle of IJN destroyer design philosophy.
