The MH-6J Little Bird evolved from the Hughes OH-6 Cayuse, which won the U.S. Army's 1961 LOH competition and entered service in 1966. McDonnell Douglas acquired production rights and developed the MD 530MG variant, which formed the basis for this specialist helicopter. Purpose-built for the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Night Stalkers), the MH-6J combines a single-rotor design with skid landing gear and a turboshaft engine. Its aluminium fuselage accommodates pilots forward, avionics beneath the cockpit, and fuel systems aft, with capacity for up to 900 kg of cargo or four troops on external benches.
This ICM 1/48 scale model captures the authentic geometry of the prototype with multiple antenna configurations and includes decals representing the 160th SOAR's operational markings, the first in ICM's Little Bird series.
