About this kit
The Hobby Boss 1/48 Yak-38U Forger B (80363) is an injection moulded plastic model kit of the Yakovlev Yak-38U, the two seat training version of the Soviet Navy's Cold War vertical take off carrier jet.
Yak-38s flew from the Kiev class aircraft carrying cruisers using two lift engines and a vectored main engine. The longer Yak-38U let instructors teach this demanding style of flying. The Yak-38 entered service in the late 1970s as the Soviet Union's first operational VTOL combat aircraft, and its trainer was essential because pilots had little room for error during vertical landings at sea. The Yak-38U lacked weapons, concentrating purely on training, and it remains an unusual subject for collectors of Cold War naval aviation.
