Hobby Boss 1/700 Ships - USS Balao SS-285 Submarine - 87011

The Hobby Boss 1/700 USS Balao SS-285 (87011) is an injection moulded plastic model kit of USS Balao, lead boat of the US Navy's Balao class diesel electric fleet submarines of the Second World War. It is a small and affordable 1/700 build.

The Balao class used thicker, high tensile steel hulls that allowed deeper diving than the earlier Gato class. More than 100 were completed, and they played a central role in the submarine campaign that crippled Japanese shipping in the Pacific. Balao class boats were also used extensively after the war, with many modernised under the GUPPY programme and transferred to allied navies such as Turkey, Italy and Brazil.
