About this kit
The Hobby Boss 1/35 Soviet SU-122-54 Tank Destroyer (84543) is an injection moulded plastic model kit of the Soviet SU-122-54, a Cold War casemate self propelled gun with a 122 mm gun on the T-54 tank chassis.
Built in the 1950s, the SU-122-54 was one of the last Soviet casemate gun vehicles; only a modest number were produced before the concept was dropped. The SU-122-54 used the reliable T-54 running gear and placed its long 122 mm gun in a heavily armoured, well sloped casemate with a crew of five. As turreted tanks with powerful guns became standard, dedicated tank destroyers of this layout fell out of favour. Its low, angular silhouette contrasts nicely with turreted tanks that shared its chassis.
