About this kit
The Hobby Boss 1/35 Russian BMD-1P (80154) is an injection moulded plastic model kit of the Soviet and Russian BMD-1P airborne infantry fighting vehicle, a light tracked vehicle designed to be parachuted alongside airborne troops during the Cold War.
The BMD-1P upgrade replaced the original BMD-1 missile rail with a launcher for later anti tank guided missiles. The type served Soviet and then Russian airborne forces for decades, including in Afghanistan. The BMD family was unique to the Soviet airborne forces, which wanted their paratroopers to fight as mechanised infantry once on the ground. The vehicle's light aluminium hull, small size and hydropneumatic suspension allowed it to be dropped by parachute on a platform, and it carried a small squad alongside its turret crew. It remains a distinctive subject among Cold War armour.
