About this kit
The Hobby Boss 1/35 PLA Type 59-2 Medium Tank (84540) is an injection moulded plastic model kit of the Chinese Type 59-2, a Cold War upgrade of the People's Liberation Army Type 59 medium tank armed with a 105 mm gun.
The Type 59 began as a licence built Soviet T-54A; the 59-2 added a 105 mm rifled gun with thermal sleeve and fume extractor, greatly improving firepower. The Type 59 was the mainstay of China's armoured forces for decades, and the 105 mm upgrade substantially extended its useful life in the 1980s. Upgraded Type 59 variants were also exported, and the large number of versions makes the Type 59 family a rich subject for modellers interested in Cold War Asian armour. Chinese green and multi colour camouflage schemes offer a refreshing change from NATO and Soviet finishes.
