Hobby Boss 1/350 Ships - PLA Navy Type 039 Song Class Submarine - 83518

The Hobby Boss 1/350 PLA Navy Type 039 Song Class (83518) is an injection moulded plastic model kit of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy Type 039 (Song class) diesel electric attack submarine. It captures the distinctive stepped sail of the class.

The Type 039 was the first diesel electric attack submarine of wholly Chinese design, entering service in the late 1990s with a quieter, more streamlined hull than the earlier Romeo and Ming classes. The class was a clear step forward in Chinese submarine technology, with improved sonar, anti ship missile capability and quieter running, and it paved the way for later designs. More than a dozen were built.
