About this kit
The Hobby Boss 1/35 Leopard C1A1 (Canadian MBT) (84502) is an injection moulded plastic model kit of the Canadian Leopard C1A1, Canada's upgraded version of the Leopard 1 main battle tank from the Cold War era.
Canada adopted the Leopard in the 1970s to replace its Centurions, and Canadian Leopards served with NATO forces in West Germany before the later turret upgrade that created the Leopard C2. Canada bought its Leopards to equip armoured units based in West Germany as part of its NATO commitment, and they served alongside allied Leopard 1 fleets during the Cold War. The C1A1 upgrade added improved equipment that kept the tanks effective into the 1990s, when Canadian Leopards also deployed on peacekeeping operations in the Balkans. The family resemblance to the German Leopard 1 is clear, but Canadian fittings and markings set it apart.
