The Hobby Boss 1/35 Leopard 1A5 Main Battle Tank (84501) is an injection moulded plastic model kit of the West German Leopard 1A5, the final Bundeswehr upgrade of the Cold War Leopard 1 main battle tank.
Introduced in the late 1980s, the 1A5 added a computerised fire control system with thermal imaging in a redesigned turret front, keeping the Leopard 1 in service with many armies well beyond the Cold War. The Leopard 1 entered service in 1965 and was adopted by many NATO and other armies, including Belgium, the Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, Italy, Canada and Australia. Its 105 mm gun, good mobility and relatively light armour reflected a design philosophy that put speed and firepower ahead of protection.
