About this kit
The Hobby Boss 1/35 German Sd.Kfz.179 Bergepanther Ausf. G (84553) is an injection moulded plastic model kit of the German Second World War Bergepanther, an armoured recovery vehicle built on the Panther Ausf. G tank chassis.
The Bergepanther replaced the turret with an open superstructure housing a powerful winch and added a large rear spade, letting crews recover damaged Tigers and Panthers. The Bergepanther entered service in 1943, and some examples carried a 2 cm gun for self defence. Its winch could haul heavy loads, with the rear spade dug into the ground to anchor the vehicle. Recovering expensive heavy tanks was vital because Germany could not replace losses quickly. The open working area invites extra detailing with tools and equipment, and the vehicle looks superb in a recovery diorama alongside a stricken tank.
