About this kit
The Hobby Boss 1/35 German PzBeobWg V Ausf. A (84534) is an injection moulded plastic model kit of the German Second World War Panzerbeobachtungswagen V, an artillery observation version of the Panther Ausf. A tank.
Developed in 1944, it replaced the main gun with a dummy barrel and added a rangefinder so forward observers could direct artillery fire with tank protection. Only a few were completed. Observation vehicles were essential to the German artillery's mobile fire support, letting observers keep pace with fast moving armoured formations. Although few were completed, the Panther observation tank shows how the Germans adapted their best chassis to specialist roles late in the war. It makes an intriguing companion to a standard Panther, and late war camouflage schemes give plenty of scope for creative painting.
