About this kit
The Hobby Boss 1/48 F4U-2 Corsair (80385) is an injection moulded plastic model kit of the Vought F4U-2, a radar equipped Second World War night fighter version of the US Navy's Corsair.
Only a few dozen F4U-1s were converted to F4U-2 standard, gaining an airborne intercept radar in a pod on the starboard wing, and they flew with Navy night fighter squadrons in the Pacific. These were the first single seat radar night fighters to fly from US aircraft carriers, operating in small detachments to protect the fleet after dark. The radar pod on the wing gives the F4U-2 a distinctive look, and it is an unusual variant that stands out in any Corsair collection.
