About this kit
The Hobby Boss 1/48 F4U-1A/2 Corsair (2 in 1) (81788) is an injection moulded plastic model kit of the Vought Corsair, an American Second World War carrier fighter, that builds either an F4U-1A day fighter or an F4U-2 radar night fighter.
The F4U-1A brought the raised canopy that made the Corsair a Pacific legend, while a few dozen F4U-2 conversions carried radar in a starboard wing pod for night interceptions. Both versions used the raised canopy airframe and the Pratt and Whitney R-2800 engine, so the two show how the Navy adapted the Corsair for different roles. The F4U-2 operated with small detachments from carriers and land bases, protecting the fleet after dark, and it remains a rare variant for display.
