About this kit
The Hobby Boss 1/144 Chinese Y-8 (83902) is an injection moulded plastic model kit of the Shaanxi Y-8, a four engine turboprop military transport aircraft built in China from the 1970s. It is part of Hobby Boss's 1/144 Y-8 and Y-9 family series.
Developed from the Soviet Antonov An-12, the Y-8 first flew in 1974 and spawned a large range of variants, from maritime patrol and electronic warfare aircraft to airborne early warning platforms. The Y-8 has long been a familiar sight with the PLA Air Force and Navy, and smaller numbers were exported. Its glazed navigator's nose, inherited from the An-12, is one of its most recognisable features.
