About this kit
The Hobby Boss 1/144 Chinese KJ-200 (83903) is an injection moulded plastic model kit of the Shaanxi KJ-200, a Chinese airborne early warning and control aircraft based on the Y-8 transport. Its long dorsal balance beam radar makes it instantly recognisable.
The KJ-200 first flew in the mid 2000s and gave the PLA a medium sized airborne surveillance platform to complement the larger KJ-2000. The airframe kept the Y-8's four turboprop engines and glazed nose, with added fins on the tailplane to restore stability disturbed by the large radar. The type is used by both the PLA Air Force and Navy.
