The AAVP7A1 is the US Marine Corps' primary amphibious assault vehicle, capable of swimming ashore from ships offshore and carrying up to 21 combat-equipped Marines under armour protection once ashore. The RAM/RS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability/Rebuild to Standard) upgrade programme modernised the vehicle's engine, suspension and transmission, extending the service life of this Vietnam-era design well into the 21st century and keeping it in frontline USMC service for ship-to-shore assault operations.
