About this kit
The M65 280mm Motorized Heavy Gun, better known by its nickname "Atomic Annie," was a Cold War-era US Army artillery piece designed to fire nuclear shells. It earned its fame on 25 May 1953 during Operation Upshot-Knothole's "Grable" test at the Nevada Test Site, when a 15-kiloton nuclear round was fired roughly seven miles downrange, the only nuclear artillery shell ever fired in a live test.
Moved into position by a pair of large tractor-trucks, one hitched to each end of its massive split carriage, the M65 was a huge, unmistakable piece of Cold War hardware. Dragon's 1/72 kit reproduces the gun's long barrel, distinctive dual-wheeled carriage and towing arrangement in fine detail for such a compact scale.
The kit provides the complete gun and carriage assembly with markings for an authentic US Army Cold War finish, making a striking centrepiece even at 1/72 scale thanks to the sheer size of the real weapon.
A must for Cold War military history enthusiasts and anyone wanting an unusual, conversation-starting subject beyond the usual tanks and aircraft.
