About this kit
The Special Type 2 Ka-Mi was the Imperial Japanese Navy's purpose-built amphibious tank, developed from the Type 95 Ha-Go light tank chassis and issued to the Navy's Special Naval Landing Forces for island-hopping operations across the Pacific. Detachable bow and stern pontoons gave it buoyancy for ship-to-shore assaults, while a propeller and rudder provided water propulsion before the floats were jettisoned once ashore.
Dragon's 1/72 kit reproduces the Ka-Mi's unusual twin-pontoon silhouette, the boat-shaped bow float, distinctive commander's cupola and the low-velocity 37mm gun turret, translating the type's odd amphibious profile into a compact, detail-rich build.
The kit provides both hull and detachable float components so the tank can be displayed in its "swimming" configuration with pontoons attached or as a beached land tank with them removed, plus decals for authentic IJN markings.
A distinctive and relatively unusual Pacific War subject that stands out from the more common European armour, appealing to collectors after something different for their 1/72 Japanese or Pacific Theatre displays.
