About this kit
The Sd.Kfz.184 Ferdinand was a heavy tank destroyer built on the rejected Porsche Tiger (P) chassis, put into production to make use of the surplus hulls once the Henschel design was chosen for the standard Tiger I. Protected by up to 200mm of frontal armour and armed with the devastating 8.8cm PaK 43/2 L/71 gun, it made its combat debut at the Battle of Kursk in July 1943 with schwere Panzerjäger-Abteilung 653 and 654, where its firepower proved formidable even if its lack of secondary armament and mechanical complexity were significant drawbacks.
Dragon's 1/72 kit reproduces the Ferdinand's slab-sided casemate superstructure and distinctive twin-engine rear deck with fine, slide-moulded surface detail rarely seen at this scale, including the long PaK 43 barrel and stowage fittings.
The kit comes as an injection-moulded styrene build with a decal sheet for accurate Kursk-period Wehrmacht markings.
A must for collectors of Eastern Front German heavy armour, and a compact centrepiece for a Kursk-themed 1/72 diorama.
