About this kit
USS Albany (CG-10) began life as a Baltimore-class heavy cruiser before undergoing one of the US Navy's most dramatic Cold War conversions, emerging as the lead ship of the three-strong Albany class of guided-missile cruisers (alongside Chicago and Columbus). Her original gun turrets and superstructure were stripped away and replaced with a boxy new hull carrying twin Talos and Tartar surface-to-air missile launchers plus ASROC anti-submarine rockets, giving her one of the most radically altered silhouettes of any postwar warship.
This Dragon 1/700 Smart Kit captures Albany's unique missile-cruiser profile using Dragon's refined slide-mould tooling, delivering crisp definition on the launcher rails, radar domes and deck fittings while simplifying part breakdown for a more straightforward build than earlier-generation tooling.
The kit is supplied with photo-etched brass for railings and fine mast/antenna structures plus a comprehensive decal sheet for hull numbers and deck markings, and can be built waterline or full-hull for display on a stand or in a diorama base.
A rewarding subject for collectors of Cold War-era US Navy cruisers and anyone assembling a fleet of missile-age warships alongside other Dragon 1/700 releases.
