About this kit
USS Boxer began life as an Essex-class fleet carrier in World War II before being converted in 1959 into one of the Navy's first purpose-configured amphibious assault ships, redesignated LPH-4, operating helicopters to land Marines directly onto the beach and serving through the Vietnam War era.
Dragon's 1/700 kit captures Boxer's converted flight deck and hangar-side island, moulded with fine detail for deck markings, elevators and superstructure, reflecting her transformation from strike carrier to helicopter assault ship.
The kit includes a decal sheet for flight deck markings and hull numbers plus a display stand, letting builders present the ship in her LPH configuration.
An interesting subject for collectors interested in carrier conversions and Cold War-era Marine amphibious operations.
