About this kit
The Panzer Selbstfahrlafette V (Sfl.V) was one of Germany's earliest attempts to marry a light tank chassis with a heavier field gun, mounting the 10.5cm leFH18/1 light howitzer in a tall, lightly armoured open-topped superstructure built on a lengthened Panzer II chassis. Produced only in small numbers from 1941-42, it saw combat trials in North Africa and on the Eastern Front, and its lessons fed directly into the far more numerous Wespe self-propelled howitzer that followed it into full production.
Dragon's kit reproduces this rare and unusual vehicle with a detailed lengthened running gear, the distinctive tall fighting compartment and the 10.5cm howitzer with its recoil spade and gun shield. Individual track links and finely moulded suspension components capture the Panzer II-derived chassis accurately, a subject rarely covered in mainstream plastic model ranges.
The kit includes decals and an instruction manual detailing the assembly of the howitzer mount and open fighting compartment, giving modellers the chance to build an important but often-overlooked stepping stone in German self-propelled artillery development.
A must for specialist collectors of German artillery and early-war armour, offering a genuinely unusual subject that stands out from more common Panzer IV and StuG builds.
