About this kit
By the summer of 1943 the Panzer IV was the mainstay of Germany's armoured divisions, and this kit depicts the Ausf.F1(F) as it fought in Operation Zitadelle, the Battle of Kursk, in July 1943. The Ausf.F1 retained the short 7.5cm KwK37 L/24 gun originally intended for infantry support, and by Kursk many surviving F1 hulls in front-line service had been fitted with the newly introduced 5mm Schürzen side skirts, added specifically to defeat the wave of Soviet anti-tank rifles and shaped-charge weapons encountered on the Eastern Front.
Dragon's kit reproduces the Ausf.F chassis and superstructure with individual track links, detailed running gear and the distinctive box-pattern side-skirt hangers, along with the wire mesh and plate Schürzen panels themselves. The turret and hull feature the correct early-pattern vision ports, cupola and stowage bins for this transitional model of Panzer IV.
The kit includes decals for markings appropriate to units engaged at Kursk, plus a full instruction manual. Individual track link assembly and multi-part sprues mean some cutting and cementing skill is required to complete the model to a high standard.
An ideal centrepiece for any Kursk-themed diorama or Eastern Front collection, capturing a pivotal moment in the evolution of German armour on history's largest tank battlefield.
