About this kit
The Sd.Kfz. 251/22 was a late-war expedient born of Germany's shrinking supply of dedicated tank destroyers: the powerful 7.5cm PaK 40 anti-tank gun, normally towed or mounted on a purpose-built chassis, was fitted directly into the open rear fighting compartment of the ubiquitous Sd.Kfz. 251 half-track. Issued to Panzergrenadier units from late 1944, it gave hard-pressed infantry formations a mobile, if lightly protected, means of engaging Allied armour as the war moved onto German soil.
Based on the late-production Ausf.D hull, easily identified by its simplified, angular armour plates designed for faster wartime manufacture, Dragon's kit combines the well-detailed 251 chassis with a full representation of the PaK 40 gun and its mounting, including the distinctive raised gun shield fitted to protect the crew. Slide-mould parts capture the half-track's sloped glacis and hull sides along with the individual track links that give the running gear a convincing look.
The kit includes crew-served gun detail, decals for Panzergrenadier unit markings, and the instructions and photo-etch typical of Dragon's late-war half-track releases.
A good subject for a 1944-45 Western Front or Eastern Front diorama depicting Germany's improvised anti-tank defences in the closing months of the war.
