About this kit
The Panzerkampfwagen III Ausführung N was a specialised support variant of Germany's classic medium tank, rearmed with the short-barrelled 7.5cm KwK 37 L/24 gun taken from the Panzer IV to give infantry-support firepower and a useful high-explosive capability alongside the longer-ranged anti-tank guns in a Panzer company. This release specifically represents a machine of schwere Panzer-Abteilung 501, the heavy tank battalion that fought in Tunisia in 1942-43 as one of the first units to field the Tiger I in combat, with Ausf.N tanks serving alongside the Tigers to provide close support and cover their flanks.
Dragon's kit reproduces the Ausf.N's distinctive silhouette, including its shortened gun and the late-pattern turret with the improved cupola, using slide-mould parts to capture fine surface detail on the hull and running gear without sacrificing accuracy. Individual track link components are included to give the running gear a realistic sag and detail level well beyond simple vinyl belts.
The box provides decals and marking options appropriate to PzAbt 501's desert operations, along with photo-etched detail parts typical of Dragon's 1/35 armour range, letting builders finish the model in the sand-yellow schemes seen in North Africa.
A strong choice for anyone building a Tunisia 1942-43 collection or looking to pair a Panzer III support tank alongside a Tiger I from the same battalion.
