About this kit
The Raupenschlepper Ost ("caterpillar tractor East"), or RSO, was developed in 1942 specifically for the brutal mud and snow of the Eastern Front, where conventional wheeled trucks routinely became bogged down. Its simple, fully tracked chassis and low ground pressure gave German forces a dependable prime mover and gun platform in conditions that stopped almost everything else. The RSO/3 variant modelled here carries a quadruple 2cm Flakvierling 38 anti-aircraft mount, turning the humble tractor into a mobile air-defence gun capable of protecting supply columns from low-flying Soviet aircraft.
Dragon's kit captures the RSO's distinctive wooden-sided cab and simple, boxy chassis alongside a detailed Flakvierling 38 mount with its four separate barrels, gun shield and ammunition trays. Fine slide-moulded parts render the tractor's suspension and track runs, while the flak mount can be posed traversed and elevated for a dynamic action pose.
The kit includes decals and full assembly instructions for building the RSO chassis and its anti-aircraft superstructure as a single, cohesive model.
An unusual and distinctive subject for Eastern Front modellers wanting something beyond the usual tanks and half-tracks - a characterful improvised weapons platform with real historical grounding.
