About this kit
The Panther Ausf.A was Germany's refined "medium" tank, introduced in August 1943 with a redesigned turret roof, a new commander's cupola, and a hull-mounted ball MG34 that corrected weaknesses exposed by the original Ausf.D. This early-production Ausf.A saw action in the mountainous, mud-choked terrain of the Italian campaign of 1943/44, where its 7.5cm KwK42 L/70 gun and sloped armour gave German panzer units a decisive edge over Allied Sherman and Churchill tanks fighting up the peninsula.
Dragon's Premium Edition treatment of this Panther pushes well beyond a standard armour kit: the interior is reproduced in extensive detail, including the engine bay, turret basket, ammunition racks and driver's compartment, so the hull and turret can be left open for display. Slide-mould technology delivers a one-piece hollow gun barrel and crisp exterior detail, while a substantial photo-etched fret adds engine grilles, stowage brackets and other fine fittings that injection plastic alone cannot capture.
The box includes markings for more than one Panther unit that fought in Italy, along with decals, clear periscope parts and workable track links, giving builders the option of a fully detailed static display or a diorama piece with hatches and panels posed open.
This is a kit for experienced modellers who want to build a museum-quality Panther A with genuine interior detail rather than a closed-up shell - a rewarding, involved build for collectors of German armour and Italian campaign subjects.
