About this kit
The 15cm schweres Infanteriegeschütz 33 (sIG 33) was the German army's standard heavy infantry support gun, and this kit depicts an early attempt to give that powerful but ponderous weapon cross-country mobility by mounting it on a modified tank chassis. Fielded during the Polish and French campaigns of 1939–1940, the resulting self-propelled gun carried the full-size 15cm howitzer and its crew inside a tall, boxy, lightly armoured open-topped superstructure, trading protection for the ability to keep pace with advancing infantry and deliver close-range bunker-busting firepower.
Dragon's kit reproduces the ungainly but historically important superstructure and chassis with the same slide-mould precision applied to the brand's better-known Panzer subjects, including the exposed breech and recoil mechanism of the sIG 33 howitzer, crew platform detail and the distinctive angular armour plates bolted onto the converted chassis.
Decals and a full instruction manual are included, covering the vehicle's early-war Wehrmacht markings.
An unusual and historically significant "stopgap" self-propelled gun, this kit appeals to modellers seeking early-war German armour subjects rarely covered by other manufacturers.
