About this kit
The Flakpanzer IV (3cm) Kugelblitz ("Ball of Lightning") was one of Nazi Germany's last-ditch attempts to give its armoured columns credible protection against marauding Allied fighter-bombers in the closing months of the Second World War. Built on the well-proven Panzer IV chassis, it replaced the tank's turret with a distinctive rotating, multi-faceted armoured turret mounting twin 3cm MK 103 automatic cannon, giving a punishing rate of fire against low-flying aircraft. Only a handful of the roughly five completed vehicles ever reached front-line units before the war ended, making the Kugelblitz one of the rarest and most sought-after German AFV subjects for modellers.
Dragon's 1/35 kit captures this unusual vehicle with the engineering precision the brand is known for, using slide-mould technology to reproduce the complex, multi-angled turret faces and the twin MK 103 barrels as crisp, hollow-tipped mouldings straight from the sprue. The lower hull and running gear are shared with Dragon's extensive Panzer IV tooling, giving accurate suspension, drive sprockets and track detail, while turret hatches, sighting equipment and ammunition feed detail bring the fighting compartment to life.
The kit includes a full set of markings and decals along with a comprehensive instruction manual covering assembly of the hull, running gear and the turret's rotating mechanism, letting finished models display the turret traversed to any angle.
An eye-catching, oddball subject with real historical rarity value, this kit will appeal to Luftwaffe/Flak enthusiasts and Panzer IV collectors alike who want something genuinely different for the display cabinet.
