About this kit
The Panzerbefehlswagen III Ausf.K was a purpose-built armoured command tank developed late in the war on the Panzer III chassis, adopting the wider superstructure, driver's plate and cupola from the Panzer IV to make room for the extra radio equipment a command vehicle needed. Unlike the earliest command Panzer IIIs, which carried only a dummy gun, the Ausf.K retained a real 5cm KwK 38 L/42 cannon with reduced ammunition stowage, so unit and formation commanders could direct their battle while still able to defend themselves in a firefight.
This 2024 upgrade release from Dragon reworks the kit with revised sprues, tightened panel-line and weld detail, and updated photo-etched parts compared to earlier tooling of the subject, alongside slide-moulded hull and turret components and individually assembled track links for accurate sag and drape over the road wheels.
Decals for command-vehicle markings and full instructions are included in the box.
A distinctive variant among the huge Panzer III family, this kit appeals to modellers wanting a command tank with genuine fighting capability to anchor a Panzer division diorama.
