About this kit
The Sturmgeschütz III Ausf.E was a transitional StuG III variant, built on the proven Panzer III chassis but distinguished by an enlarged superstructure with extended side "boxes" that gave room for two additional MP-40-armed crewmen, allowing the vehicle to double as an armoured command and close-support platform for infantry. It retained the short 7.5cm StuK 37 L/24 gun, optimised for high-explosive support fire rather than tank-killing.
Dragon issues this release as part of its Neo Smart Kit series, which pares the parts count and engineering down for a faster, more accessible build while keeping the crisp slide-moulded detail — sharply defined weld seams, correctly shaped mantlet, and accurate early-pattern vision ports and hatches — that the brand is known for.
The kit includes Dragon's signature workable track and running gear detail, along with a decal sheet for period German markings, making it easy to depict a specific unit straight from the box.
Ideal for both newcomers wanting a more straightforward build and experienced modellers assembling a broader early-war StuG family, this Ausf.E fills a distinctive niche between the earliest short-hulled StuGs and the later long-barrelled variants.
