The M7 Priest was the United States Army's primary self-propelled 105mm howitzer of the Second World War, built on the reliable M3 medium tank chassis and instantly recognisable by the raised "pulpit" ring mount for its .50 calibre machine gun — the feature that earned the vehicle its nickname among British troops. This early production version reflects the vehicle as it entered service in North Africa and Sicily, before the raft of running changes applied later in the war.
Dragon's kit captures the early-build details specific to this production batch, including the correct hull castings, driver's hoods and stowage arrangement, and is supplied with Dragon's individual-link Magic Track — separate track links that snap and cement together for a far more realistic sag and tension than a single-piece rubber-band track.
The 105mm M2A1 howitzer is finely moulded with crisp recoil-cylinder and breech detail, and the open-topped fighting compartment allows the interior stowage and crew positions to be shown off once assembled. A decal sheet is included for authentic US Army markings.
A great subject for modellers building an early-war North Africa or Sicily diorama alongside Dragon's companion Sherman and half-track releases, this kit rewards the extra care that individual track assembly requires with a highly detailed, display-ready result.
