About this kit
Developed from 1942 specifically for the Eastern Front, the Raupenschlepper Ost — RSO — was a fully tracked prime mover designed to cope with the deep mud and snow that regularly stopped German wheeled trucks. The Type 470 variant featured here served widely as a gun tractor and general transport vehicle in the harshest conditions of the Russian campaign.
This Dragon 1/35 kit reproduces the RSO/1 with its simple pressed-steel cab, cargo bed and distinctive wide track, and includes bonus snow/bog track pads that can be fitted to the standard track links to model the vehicle prepared for deep mud or snow — a detail specific to this release.
As a bonus, the kit also includes a complete Goliath tracked demolition vehicle (Leichter Ladungsträger), the small remote-controlled unmanned vehicle that carried an explosive charge to be detonated against tanks, buildings and obstacles, giving modellers two distinct German engineering subjects in a single box.
Together with decals and full instructions for both models, this set appeals to modellers interested in the more unusual, specialist side of the German order of battle rather than mainstream armour.
