About this kit
The Panzer IV Ausf.F2 marked a pivotal upgrade for German armour: taking the existing Ausf.F (later re-designated F1) hull and fitting it with the long, high-velocity 7.5cm KwK40 L/43 gun in place of the short L/24 support weapon. Roughly 175 Ausf.F2s were produced between March and July 1942 before the type was redesignated Ausf.G, making it a short-lived but historically significant transitional model that finally gave the Panzer IV the firepower to challenge the Soviet T-34 and KV-1 on equal terms.
Dragon's kit reproduces the Ausf.F2's distinctive slab-sided hull, twin-hatch driver's compartment and long-barrelled gun with a prominent muzzle brake, using slide-mould tooling for crisp hull castings and a finely turned barrel. The "(6)" in the kit reference reflects its place within Dragon's numbered Pz.Kpfw.IV release series, each covering a specific production block or theatre variation.
The kit includes individual track links for realistic sag over the road wheels, positionable hatches, and a decal sheet for period German unit markings suitable for early 1942 Eastern Front or North African service.
An essential subject for anyone building the evolution of the Panzer IV family, and a satisfying intermediate-level build that bridges the short-barrelled early tanks and the definitive long-barrelled Ausf.G/H/J that followed.
