The Panzerkampfwagen IV was Germany's most widely produced tank of the Second World War, and the Ausf.D was one of its formative early-to-mid production variants. Originally fielded with the short 7.5cm KwK37 L/24 gun for infantry support, a number of Ausf.D and Ausf.E hulls were re-armed in the field and at rebuild depots with the longer, higher-velocity 7.5cm KwK40 L/43 gun once the appearance of the Soviet T-34 exposed the inadequacy of the short-barrelled weapon on the Eastern Front from 1942 onward.
Dragon's D6330 kit captures this specific up-gunned hybrid configuration in 1/35 scale, combining the Ausf.D's distinctive rounded driver's visor and early superstructure with the longer L/43 barrel and its characteristic muzzle brake. Dragon's engineering brings slide-mould technology to bear on the hull and turret castings, producing crisp weld seams, hatch detail and a finely proportioned gun barrel without the multi-part clutter of older tooling.
The kit includes individual track links for authentic sag over the road wheels, a full complement of positionable hatches and vision ports, and a decal sheet covering period-accurate German unit markings for Eastern Front service.
It is a rewarding build for intermediate modellers looking to add a lesser-seen transitional Panzer IV variant to a WWII German armour collection, and it pairs naturally with early-war Panzer III and StuG III kits on a shared diorama base.
