About this kit
The Panzer IV Ausf.F1 marked a transitional point in the Panzer IV's development, entering production in early 1942 with thicker base armour than earlier variants but still armed with the short-barrelled 7.5cm KwK 37 L/24 gun designed for infantry support rather than tank-versus-tank combat. Many Ausf.F1 hulls were subsequently up-gunned in the field or at the factory to the long-barrelled F2 standard as the need to counter Soviet T-34s became urgent.
Dragon's kit captures the Ausf.F1's distinctive features, including the widened hull and turret with increased armour protection, the short stubby KwK 37 gun with its distinctive muzzle, and the revised idler and drive sprockets introduced on this production block. Dragon's slide-mould tooling renders the turret hatches, engine deck louvres and travel lock in crisp, finely scaled detail.
The kit includes engineered workable track links and a full suspension assembly, along with optional stowage and equipment parts typical of Dragon's 1/35 Panzer IV releases.
An important early-to-mid war subject bridging the short-barrelled and long-barrelled Panzer IV families, this kit suits modellers building an early Eastern Front or North African campaign scene.
