Named for the gritty tone of the era it depicts, this set places German infantry on the Eastern Front in 1944, a year of fighting retreat as the Wehrmacht was pushed back across Russia and Eastern Europe by the advancing Red Army. The figures are posed to convey exhaustion and desperation rather than parade-ground precision — soldiers moving, firing and taking cover amid a collapsing front line.
Each figure is individually sculpted with separately moulded rifles, sub-machine guns, grenades and winter or late-war field equipment, reflecting the makeshift, worn-down state of German units by this stage of the war on the Eastern Front.
The set pairs naturally with Dragon's Eastern Front armour releases — Panthers, Tigers, StuGs and the SdKfz half-track family — to build out a complete 1944 Russian Front diorama scene.
Recommended for diorama builders and collectors drawn to the harder-edged, cinematic side of Eastern Front modelling.
