The Horten Ho 229 (also known as the Ho IX or, in planned Gotha production form, Go 229) was one of the most radical aircraft designs to emerge from wartime Germany: a tailless flying wing conceived by brothers Reimar and Walter Horten and powered by twin Junkers Jumo 004 turbojets buried within its wing. Only a handful of prototypes were built before the war ended, and the surviving third airframe, captured by advancing US forces and later analysed by the Smithsonian Institution, has occasionally been cited for construction features that gave it reduced radar visibility relative to conventional aircraft of its era.
